Seatac Tidbits
SeaTac is in the southern part of King County, Washington, and it is nestled in the middle of Seattle and Tacoma. The city spans an area of 10 square miles. It was incorporated on March 14, 1989. Because it is near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, there are over 25,000 residents. On a normal weekday, more than 80,000 workers and tourists travel to and from SeaTac.
Historically, the Native Americans had taken the region years before the first Euro-American immigrants arrived in the middle of the 1850s. This is because the Native Americans knew that the place is good for farming, fishing, and ideal for bringing what they want to the lowlands. Now, SeaTac populated the White/Green River Valley and the banks of Puget Sound.
While William Westlake Walker was diving in Angle Lake in 1990, he discovered a submerged bunker canoes, considered to be 200 to 300 years old. In a contemporary summary of old territorial nature, Muckleshoot and Duwamish tribes each said the antiquities belonged to them.
Early dwelling of the place demonstrated the proof by the kind of vegetation and in this case were huckleberries and shallon. This was documented by federal surveyors when they visited the site of the future Sea-Tac in 1850s.
In the mid-1850s the early white pilgrims arrived, and as a rule, labelled claims near the White River. Now, this area is called the Green River or Duwamish River alongside Puget Sound. In 1860, transportation substantially progressed. The Military Road was built to speed up the activities of troops amidst Fort Steilacoom on the south of Puget Sound and on the north of Fort Bellingham.
With the Military Road, the first pilgrims settled their own tracks going to their homes. As a result of the influence of staying near the river, Mike Kelly and Jane Fenton lived with their families by the side of the subsequent winding path of Duwamish River.
In 1860s, Mike brought their dog and wrestled up the western hillside. When he saw the breathtaking view, he named the place Sunnydale. He made known his intention of claiming the area by placing a post on its ground and went back home to announce what he had found.
Mike Kelly finally filed a claim for the Sunnydale land after his marriage to Jane. In the same year, Mike Kelly was allowed to create a road amidst what is known now as South Park and his claim. He also built Kelly Road.
With the accomplishment of the very first transcontinental railroad going to Puget Sound to the Northern Pacific, the second surge of settlement extended over the entire area.
SeaTac counts the localities of Bow Lake, Angle Lake, Riverton Heights, and McMicken Heights. The name of the city is a combination of Seattle and Tacoma. Hence, the city is named Sea for Seattle and Tac for Tacoma.
According to the current estimate of US Census Bureau, SeaTac has a population of 29,561 and still continues to grow. The city is the 40th biggest city in the state of Washington. Today, SeaTac has 0.55% yearly growth that started since 2010.
