In southern King County and inner-ring suburb of Seattle is the city of SeaTac. The city is named after the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

The Native Americans originally occupied the area, but in the mid-1850s, the first Euro-American settlers arrived. They settled in the Highline ridge that divided the valley of Duwamish, White, and Green rivers.
The area gradually developed because of the subsequent construction of Military Road, Des Moines Memorial Highway, and Highway 99 that is now known as International Boulevard. From the Military Road, the area's first settlers also created their own roads that led them to their homesteads.
The completion of the first transcontinental railroad to Puget Sound in 1883 influenced the second wave of area-wide settlement. By the twentieth century, most of the farmers in the area were Japanese immigrants and their children.
On March 14, 1989, the residents voted for its incorporation wherein the name proposed is Sea-Tac, but the hyphen was then omitted. Almost one year later, on February 28, 1990 SeaTac was finally recognized as a city.
